BLAIR ATHOL NORTH B-6 SCHOOL (2022)

I spent two terms at BANB-6 with a select group of 12 students from years 4-6 to create an abstract expressionist mural for the front of the school campus.

We spent the first term doing a series of creative exercises to help the young people tap into their inner artists and gain experience with different mediums.

Once the students had gained confidence in their artistic self-expression and developed their styles and techniques, I taught them about working collaboratively and how to create a large-scale mural.

We also had excursions to the Art Gallery of South Australia and my solo exhibition 'Actuality', which was on display at the time.

I wanted to have the students create their art and be able to create something from their imagination, so the final product was painted in a 'freestyle' manner layering up the different flows and forms that the students made to build an exciting, contemporary artwork.
